How can violence be described through language?
What clichés exist in narratives about violence?
How can a text make violence visible without perpetuating it?
Which perspectives are represented?
Which are not?
How can we find new ways to talk about violence artistically?
We’ll be exploring these questions in the workshop on the play “Fräulein Else.” Director Leonie Böhm and actress Julia Riedler have reinterpreted Arthur Schnitzler’s text.
This is about sexual violence.
A man asks Else to undress in front of him.
We’ll explore: How is this described in Arthur Schnitzler’s text?
And how is it portrayed in the play?
To do this, we’ll read excerpts from the play.
And we’ll attend the performance together.
We’ll also write our own texts on the topic.
And learn how to give feedback.
We want to find out: How can violence be described in art?

Target Group: Youth workers
The training course “How to talk about war” created a space for youth workers to reflect on how to talk with young people about war situations and provide tools for dealing with controversies related to the topic on the individual and group level in a nonviolent and constructive way.
Training realized in the E+ and ESC framework organized by Salto Eastern Europe and Caucasus Resource Center, the Estonian, Lithuanian and German National Agencies.
